Download Tube Layout Calculator for Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

tube layout calculator shell heat exchanger

Use this MS Excel spreadsheet to determine how many tubes you can fit into a given shell based on the tube diameter, shell diameter, and pitch type. Metric units included.

Dear Tarang
There is no standard triangular pitch. Normally pitch shall be calculated using the formula Pt = 1.25 of Tube OD (1.25 to 1.5 times) . So pitch is based on Tube OD. So for standard tube size 19.05 mm, Triangular pitch can be 23.81 mm , so confirm your tube pitch calculation. And for fabrication purpose instead of changing Pitch, you may change the Tube Layout Angle , 30 Degree, 45 Degree, 60 Degree, 90 Degree.

Dear All,
I have quarry regarding the tube pitch.
I have Process design of shell and tube Heat Exchanger (Double Tube Sheet) and considered pitch is standard Triangle Pitch 25.4 mm and Shell Dia is 8" NB Sch 10s (211.56) mm and number of tube 32 Nos. and Heat Exchanger Area 2.67 m2 (Provided), Product Inlet temperature is 75 degree C and outlet temperature is 45 degree C.
Due to fabrication Problem is Triangular distance is 25.4 mm but horizontal distance is 27.5 is increased.
My Question is due to the above problem in the tube pitch, any thing change in the process of Heat Exchanger?
Please do the needful
