Dear All,

I have recently came across a situation where i have to design for a tank having fliud density more than that of water (design code applicable is API 650).As per code we test shell by hydrotesting, but this is ok when stored fluid is having density less than that of testing fliud(i.e water).
But how to test tank / shell when fluid stored is having desnsity say 1800kg/m3 more than that of water.

Regards

As far as i know, because the main target of hyrotest on storage tanks is checking the weld lines for fluid leak (thickness of shell and bottom have been calculated with considering fluid S.G.),the test for tanks which would cotain fluid with higher density than the water,is also performed by water but with a more time duration to allow any probable leak to be detected.
