HELLO FOLKS,

HOPE U ALL DOING WELL,

WELL NOW DAYS I AM IN TO CYCLONE SEPARATOR DESIGNING FOR AIR WATER SEPARATION.

I HAVE GONE THROUGH MANY LITERATURES AND BOOKS INCLUDING LUDWIG,I HAVE NOT FOUND SPECIFIC DESIGN GUIDLINE SPECIALY FOR GAS LIQUID OPEARATION.

DOES ANY ONE HAVE THE IDEAS ABOUT THIS?

CAN I USE THE SOLID GAS CYCLONE SEPARATOR DESIGN ( SINCE IT IS READILY AVAILABLE ) FOR GAS LIQUID SEPARATION OPTION?

THANX

Pankaj,

Here is what is mentioned in Section 10.9, Gas-Liquid Separators of Coulson & Richardson, Vol. 6:

Cyclone separators are also frequently used for gas liquid separation. They can be designed using the same methods for gas solids cyclones. The inlet velocity should be kept below 30 m/s to avoid pick-up of liquid form the cyclone surfaces.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

The selection of cyclone separator will also depend on the expected turndown ratio, as it is well known that cyclone devices show sharp decrease in efficiency when operated at low inlet flows.

Have a look at this additional info: http://217.174.18.60...pr/e-pr-850.pdf

Pankaj,

A very nice spreadsheet for cyclone separator sizing and cyclone separator efficiency calculation is available at:

Hope this helps.
