Hi,
everyone,I am working on a project about cryogenic distillation.Anyone has the sample of a cryogenic distillation column in the form of CAD (or dwg)?
Thanks for your help.

If you have it - a sample of any distillation column should be good enough, as they are essentially identical to each other. An exception could be De-Methanizer tower with a separator installed on top of the column.

If there are draftsmen watching these forums, someone might be able to help.

Ubuntu:

You are not clear and specific as to what you are requesting.

WHAT specific type of drawing do you want? Is it a Process Flow Diagram (PFD), a Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), a fabrication drawing, or a General Arranglement?

A cryogenic distillation column is no different in concept and process design than any other distillation column. However, the fabrication, piping installation, insulation, instrumentation, and other mechanical installation details are very unique and special. These are not normally found on PFDs or P&IDs.

Why don’t you just tell us what you specifically need or what it is that you don’t understand and/or are curious about regarding cryogenic distillation towers. Cryogenic equipment – especially its mechanical design is a subject that is very specific and special. Not many engineers are knowledgeable in this subject and it is only to be expected that the mere mention of the many potential design problems to a student is enough to raise concern and fear when confronting an assignment to “design” a cryogenic process.

Basically, are you going to be involved in a PROCESS design or a MECHANICAL design? Sometimes some professors involve their chemical engineering students in both – something that I am totally against because a chemical engineering curriculum does not normally involve any mechanical design.

Thanks, Zauberberg

Just as you say, I need an example of a De-Methanizer. It's a little different from the other distillation column. On the top of the column, it might be a chiller. I'm not quite sure, so I need help.

Art Montemayor,

Thanks for your reply, I'm just confused about the fabrication drawing, because it's a little different from the other distillation column. And what I'm confused about is the difference. So I wish there's an example of what the difference is.

Dear Hello/Good Morning, Though our 'Art' has correctly and graciously guided you but your response is somewhat "non-professional/In-adequate I understand!

Please do realize that the three type of process detailing diagrams have great deal of difference from each other i.e. as the names describe broadly
  • PFD Process Flow Diagram emphasizes on the Flow scheme related Significant items Point location pressure, temperatures and flows, inter connections and controls
  • P&ID Process and Instrumentation diagram more emphasizes on Identifying the Instrumentation, tapping, all signals ,Control valves and controlled parameters& piping details
  • Now while talking about the fabrication details this has lot of other aspect covered material details, orientation details, grade levels elevations details and many other aspects which may help in erection fabrication and subsequent mechanical refurbishment as needed over a period of time.
Hope this helps in some way&other Forum Giants may correct me. as I am not an authority.

I will strongly request you to send 'Art' an apology Please! He is a Great helper,Guider And Mentor indeed, please Appreciate.

Thanks in advance.
