Dear freind:
I WANT TO KNOW WHY THE TOP SIDE OF DEMETHANIZER TOWER IS MORE WIDER THAN THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THIS TOWER?

While I am not an expert on this subject, my guess is that it has to do with velocity. Probably you need a bigger diametere in the top seciton to lower the velocity and hence minimize the chnace of Liquid entrainment. Why the liquid entrainment should be minimized could have something to do with the downstream equipment. Maybe there is an expander downstream the tower that can not tolerate liquid.
But I'd be interested to see other poeple's response.

See attached document. The "bell" on top of De-C1 tower is actually a separator vessel, providing vapor-liquid separation and thus eliminating the need for tower liquid feed pump as well (Picture 1 in the attached document shows the original De-Methanizer configuration).

Some plants utilize this additional space even further, by installing structured and random packing (or trays) inside the "bell", and also providing an external reflux, which increases overall Ethane recovery.
