Hi
I don't see difference as long you have a good preventive maintenance plan .
Of course you need to stick to the recommendations from the vendor ( type of lubricant,....)
Attached a paper which may help:

Hope this helps

The most important factor you have to consider when deciding whether to use oil or grease lubrication on your centrifugal pumps is to heed the pump manufacurer's instructions.

You are NOT FREE to decide which lubrications system to employ on a pump. This is decided upon when the pump is being either specified or designed for the application. Of course, as the user, you are free to specify your preferences. But the manufacturer determines the ultimate lubrication method and whether your lubrication preference can be supplied.

This is only common sense since the type of bearings employed in the pump design are basically what determines the applicable type of lubrication shall be. Some bearings can tolerate either grease or oil; others demand only one type alone. The bearing design, the operating temperatures, the speeds involved, and thrust forces are only some of the many details that have to be taken into consideration during bearing selection and design.

Don't forget: You are NOT the pump expert. The manufacturer is. Therefore, it is wise to heed the manufacturer's instructions.
