Hi, I am new to Pump systems. I am working with small scale company. Recently i got a project related to pump parallel connection. Our company is having 6 centrifugal pump needs to be attached in parallel. I have to design pipe having 1 inlet from tank and 6 outlets going toward 6 pump suction lines. And another pipe having 6 inlets from pump discharge and 1 outlet going toward tank. This system I have to set up on trailer for movable purpose. I am new to such kind of project. Can you please guide me how to proceed? What precaution should I take while designing pipe? I am totally clueless about how to start this project.

Hello everybody:

I am totally clueless about how to start this project.

If do you feel that you are unable to do that job; then, say it in plain manner to your boss in order that he/she look around inside the company and assigns this task to another person or, if it is not possible, hire a competent professional engineer to make this work properly.

Nobody in its healthy judgment will blame to you for that reason.

Better be cool and start from a sketch of what you want, like the 6pumps.jpg attached (correct it). Apparently flowrates are given and you have to estimate the manometric head of each pump, all six assumed same. It is recommended to give more information about this project, e.g. purpose, flowarate of each new centrifugal pump, how many of them can be simultaneously in operation, liquid transferred, rough dimensions of sending & receiving tank, minimum liquid level of sending tank, etc. The matter of trailer does not seem clear, do these pumps discharge into many small tanks at a time? Why be six? Try to give clarifications. Some flexible pipe (hose) seems necessary, but you have to define where. Flexible pipe could be from sending tank nozzle to the collector connected to each pump suction. And the common discharge need probably to be of flexible pipe, while all rest will be on the trailer? This info (with the sketch) will allow for a more precise help, hopefully, apart from the generality that this is a matter of pressure drop along piping. A flow meter is probably needed, too.

Abhi1712!

Do you mean “trailer” as Truck loading facilities normally provided in Bulk Plant. If I am right, what is need of sending back the product to tank (same tank or another tank) ? Try to provide more details (at least all as kkala mentioned here).
