Hiiii....

I am doing my btech in chemical engineering... and am doing a project on the simulation of CO2 absorption from flue gas with aqueous MEA.

First i tried the steady state simulation in HYSIS and used Amine package in that. The results of the outlet streams are in terms of MEA, water and CO2.
but in actual, MEA -CO2-water mixture undergoes electrolyte reaction. The recovery i got from the absorber makes me think that the amine package has considered the reactions, but seeing the outlet components in streams i get a doubt whether it has considered it as physical absorption or chemisorption...

I got stucked up with this confusion....then i tried with ASPEN PLUS with same values, and iam getting different results....in one of the paper it was given that they have used MEA property insert method in ASPEN PLUS to consider the electrolyte reaction, which i could not find.....

So please can any one get me out of this confusion???

Hi,

Both HYSYS and Aspen Plus are known to give pretty good results so I would suggest avoid switching of software and concentrating on one of them and try to understand their modeling philosophies.

For HYSYS, you may want to try DBR Amine package which may require additional license.

For Aspen Plus, uou can get insert – a file (I guess it was ELECNRTL) from Aspen Plus’s support. I wonder why Aspen Plus users still have to use this additional file, why can’t they add this FP in the common setup/install.

Thank you so much for your reply...

The main doubt in my mind is whether HYSIS and ASPEN are considering the absorption as chemisorption or just physical absoprtion.... because in HYSIS i am using only normal Amine Package and in ASPEN too.....

As i dont have additional licences, i cannot use both the options you have given.... Even aspen plus support is asking for registered users only....
So as of now i am happy with the results of HYSIS and ASPEN, but am not able to get convinced that it is the final output...

Thanks in Regards...
