Dear All,

We are in the process of purchasing a fired heater for our 6000 BPSD light sweet crude atmospheric distillation unit. The process of design and fabrication will be done by some well known engineeirng company.

I would like to know, for my understanding and for the sake of own engineering exercise, what are the sources of literature which should be used to design a fired heater apart from simulation programs (simulation programs came in to use very late and manual calculation was the rule)

If i were to design a fired heater on my own using long hand calculations, what should be the starting point and what literature should be utilized.

Any advice from Che Jedis' would be highly appreciated

D Q Kern - Process Heat Transfer has a dedicated section for fired heaters

W L Nelson - Petroleum Refinery Engineering has a chapter on Fired Heaters

ANSI/API STD 560- Fired Heaters for General Refinery Service 4th Edition

Some literature for fired heaters as mentioned above
