Best Assumption For Flare Tip Pressure Profile

I'm currently doing flare network analysis for an oil terminal plant. The flare tip pressure profile data is unavailable, so based on your experience, what is the best assumption for the pressure profile? The flare tip diameter is 42".
Thanks

I had to to do some adequacy checking for a 36" flare tip due to the fact that the flare tip diameter was smaller than the stack diameter and there were some concerns for the pressure drop due to the addition of a reducer between the flare stack and the flare tip.
If the flare tip is a straight pipe-type than the pressure drop can be calculated straight forward as a pipe tip and should not exceed 1-2 psi. If the flare tip is a multiple burner-type tip then the pressure drop becomes more complicated. In such a case pressure drop profile should be obtained from the flare tip vendor.
Some guidelines for flare tip selection and installation are given in Section 5 - "Elevated Flare Equipment Components" of API STD 537- Flare Details for General Refinery and Petrochemical Service, 1st Edition, Sept. 2003.
Hope this helps.

Ankur.

Not sure if applicable in your case but, from the above discussion, it appeared that "Flow vs Pressure drop (or Flow vs Backpressure) should be one of the vendor deliverables in any case"
