I work in a refinery that is over 40 years old. We have undertaken to clean the entire cooling water system at the next opportunity and would like some advice regarding the most effective method to employ. The system is very badly fouled with corrosion and microbiological fouling products and we are progressing with a plan to mechanically clean as much of the system as possible as opposed to chemical cleaning due to the nature of the product and the extent of the fouling. We’re looking for examples of other refineries that have been in the same situation regarding cooling water and have undertaken a similar task to determine the most effective technique and verify our decision.
