Dear All,

I want to calculate the temperature rise due to heat of dilution. Please find the data given below.

We wish to dilute 'X kg' of 35% [by w/w %] HCl solution to get 28% [by w/w %] 200kg HCl and I want to calculate the temperature rise due to heat of dilution.
This means:

We will take: 160kg of 35% HCl and add 40kg of water to get 28% 200kg HCl. By adding this 40kg of water, we will have temperature rise due to heat of dilution and therefore the temperature rise. Please find the attached file containing heat of dilution chart on page 20 and I am confused how to use this chart.

Any input will be highly appreciated.

Regards,
KS

Heat of Solution for 1kg HCl:

acid concentration
[weight-%]

0.1% 485 kcal
25% 427 kcal
30% 408 kcal
35% 392 kcal
40% 374 kcal

200 kg of 35% = 70 kg HCL , during the dilution with water will generate 70*( 420-392) kcal #2100 kcal

Hope this helps

Hi Breizh,

Thanks for your reply/input.

Is it not 200 kg of 28% = 56 kg HCL , during the dilution with water will generate 56*( 420-392) kcal = 1568 kcal.

Please clarify. Thanks!!
