Hi Guys
I'm a chemical engineering undergraduate in the UK and I have to design a Heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) for my final year project.
Im just a bit confused between the differences between a once through steam generator and a heat recovery steam generator. I know that a once through steam generator (OTSG) is a type of heat recovery steam generator...is this true? And if it is can anyone locate any sources that validate this?
I know that the main difference between a OTSG and a HRSG is in the evaporator section; where in a HRSG; the evaporator section consists of a boiler drum which consists of a 'forced circulation type cycle'.
My query is whether or not I could use a OTSG system/principles to design my HRSG if that makes any sense? Hope it does! Would there be any factors which would suggest that using a OTSG would be better for my HRSG design?
The design is as follows; Currently, in the HRSG I have very hot flue gas which is being cooled and in turn will heat water and convert it to superheated steam which in turn will drive a gas turbine to generate electricity.
The HRSG is operating at 178 bar
Flue gas is being cooled from 1300C to 227C (Before Flue gas enters HRSG, it is at a pressure of 24.3 bar)
Water is heated from 60C to 535C (water will be in the tubes)
All feedback to the above queries will be very much appreciated! It would also be very handy if you could validate your assumptions/ comments with links etc wherever necessary.
Many Thanks
Mo
