Dear all,

I am working on simulating a CCS process in HYSYS (and in UniSIM too). The process involves pre-conditioning of the flue gases (containing carbon dioxide, lighter gases and water). Water is removed by using a Pressure Swing Adsorber (PSA). My first question is how to simulate it in HYSYS (and UniSIM)?
Secondly, in later stages, hydrogen is removed from the flue gas stream by Vaccuum Pressure Swing Adsorber (VPSA). The second question is how could I proceed with it's simulation in said softwares?

I look forward to your help.

Nauman.

HYSYS and Unisim are thermodynamic modelling tools and they cannot model the details of a pressure swing adsorption process because they do not have any ability to handle the adsorption/desorption thermodynamics or kinetics. Second, if you could build that data, you would need to run a dynamic model.

In my past experience, I have modelled PSA units as simple component splitters. You should be able to get PSA performance data for your inlet gas from one of the manufacturers (Air Products, UOP, Linde, etc.)

One key piece of information you will need to deal with for your process is the variability in the tail gas with time as the units cycle. This can be substantial and is one of the more complex things to deal with if you are using the tail gas.

Hi Bard,

thank you for your response. I'll try a splitter and see how things go.

Best wishes.
Nauman.
