I'm designing a plant to recover a high purity (99.98%) benzene product from n-Pentane using Sulfolane, I'll be using a packed column, and will have a solvent recovery and recycle, in view of the high cost, Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to make this plant more efficient and/or less costly? (ie. number of stages, equipment size...)

Dear Friend

Do you have equilibrium data for calculating no. of stages.if not can you generate the data.if not can you do pilot trials on lab scale.

if you want to minimise the column packed height which is desirable then you have to go for packings with low HETP. Structure packings are desirable as there will be low pressure drop which reduces your pumping cost.

Thanks
Trilok
