Dear All,

I have question regarding ESD system. Some ESD valves are associated with a local reset push buttons, while others do not have that option. On what basis this segregation has been established?, thanks alot.

A local reset push button I think is intended to force an operating person to be present and able to see the ESD valve and associated equipment and therefore to observe first hand that the area is indeed safe and in a fit state ready for the valve to be opened.

The alternative is to allow reset and opening remotely sitting in a control room and a there being a hazard still be present in the field (such as a large leak) and not realise it.

Field reset can also help the maintenance technicians working or trouble shooting the valve in the field.

Agreeing with Dazzler, possibilities applied for numerous ESD valves in Aspropirgos refinery can be seen at http://www.cheresour...r-fire-scenario, mainly from post No 9 on. Both possibilitues (operation for control room, or from local panel at some distance from valve) are usually applied for the same ESD valve, in addition to manual operation
