Hi
I am a student of final year Chemical Engineering ... well I am interested to know how to deal with the mechanical design of pressure vessels (vessels subjected to internal pressure and external pressure) .I have no idea about mechanical design since we have no course which is related to Mechanical Design.
I came to know about different heads while searching on google but I have no idea about them, which one is used for which job, there advantages etc etc .. well I will be really greatfully if anyone help me in this regard.

my details are as follows,

Name : BHAVIN MAKWANA

BHAVIN:

First of all, I strongly recommend that you delete your email address from this thread. This exposure will only lead to trouble for you in receiving a lot of undesirable communications. There is no need for that.

You have come to the right place if you are seeking what you describe. I have posted in many threads a lot of the information you are looking for. Use our SEARCH machine that you can see in the upper right-hand portion of the web page and key in key words such as pressure vessel, vessel volumes, separators, vapor-liquid separators, Pressure Vessel Handbook, and Eugene Megyesy. These key words should bring up a lot of the past information and Excel workbooks that I have contributed.

I fully understand your concern and interest in finding out more and more about pressure vessel mechanical design, limitations, and applications. I have written extensively on this subject on these forums in the past. I have previously uploaded one workbook, Vessel Volumes, that goes into deep detail about the use and characteristics of different vessel heads and how they are designed – and fabricated.

I am presently working on a new workbook, Pressure Vessel Mechanical Design, in which I want to give young chemical engineers a tool that they can rely on using on a day-to-day basis on their projects at the FEED, detailed design, installation, operational, or modification level. The information that this workbook should yield is:
  • The calculation of a vessel wall thickness;
  • The calculation of different vessel heads’ wall thicknesses;
  • The calculation of a vessel’s estimated weight;
  • The explanation between internal and external vessel pressures.
The workbook is at the beginning stages at present and I am trying to finish it as fast as I can. This is something I always wanted to do when I had young engineers under me who needed this training for use on plant projects. Unfortunately, as I’ve gotten older, I have inherited other projects that carry a high priority – my family and grandchildren. Obviously, the workbook takes second place.

In the meantime, however, I strongly urge you to go to:

http://www.amazon.co...YPMHV1YVMPFTK3C

and purchase a copy of the 14th Edition of Pressure Vessel Handbook by Eugene Megyesy. It is selling for approximately $118 (new, and hardcover) and worth every inflated penny in my opinion.

Another alternative, most probably shorter but containing the basics (including heads), is Vol 6 of Coulson and Richardson's "Chemical Engineering", Chapter 13, as described in http://www.cheresour...ressure-vessels '> http://www.cheresour...ressure-vessels or http://www.cheresour...ss-calculation .
