Dear All,
I am studying LPG vaporizer. Can anybody help me to have mollier chart OR mollier diagram for LPG?

Thanking You.

Harshad,

LPG is a generic term. LPG could be pure propane, pure butane or a mixture of propane and butane in various proportions with trace olefin imurities such as propylene and butylene. You need to tell us what do you mean by LPG? Also what properties do you want to evaluate from the Mollier diagram?

Regards,
Ankur.

Dear Ankur,
The system I am studying contains the LPG mixture of Propane(60%) and Butane(40%).
I want to evaluate the difference in enthalpy(heat content) at certain pressure and temperature to calculate heat transfer efficiency.

Regards,
Harshad

Harshad,

It probably would be very difficult, if not impossible to get a Mollier chart for an LPG mixture of 60% by weight Propane and 40% by weight butane (or is the proportion in moles). I would suggest you use a simulation software to generate enthalpy data for a given pressure and temperature. HYSYS, Aspen Plus or Pro II could be useful. If you don't have access to these, then you can use the free download student's edition of the "Prode Properties" calculator from the following link:

http://www.prode.com/en/properties.htm

Regards,
Ankur.

Dear Sir

How can I make P-h diagram for different compositions of Propane/Butane using Aspen plus or HYSYS? You mentioned that "use a simulation software to generate enthalpy data for a given pressure and temperature". Kindly describe the procedure briefly.

Thank you.

If you have access to HYSYS I can show you how generate PH diagram for various compositions of LPG. However it will be better to use excel to generate the plots while HYSYS gives you the data.

I have a different software (PRODE PROPERTIES) which can generate diagrams  as PH etc. keeping in account phase equilibria,

I agree with kabtik that working with Excel (or Matlab) offers the degree of flexibility required to create a Mollier chart,

with PRODE (or HYSYS or another simulator) and Excel you can  create a table of values including all the possible states (liquid, two-phase, vapor, above critical) ,

these values can be generated with a series of flash operations as

constant volume

constant enthalpy

constant entropy,

constant liquid fraction

and as result you can create a complete Mollier chart.

Hi Kabtik,

I have accessed to Aspen software. Do you know how to generate PH diagram using Aspen software?

in this thread thorium90 has given the instructions for HYSYS,

and PaoloPemi has given the instruction for PRODE,

a number of tables P-H , P-S , P-V , T-H , T-S , T-V , S-H , S-V etc. can be calculated at some equilibrium conditions (VL, VLL etc.) with these you can easily create diagrams in Excel or Matlab or some other software application,

if you wish to include additional lines and values (as those required by a mollier chart) then you can do that with the specific methods provided by software,

see the above posts for additional information

@ Siak Chung: Sorry, I have never used ASPEN software, but I can use ASPEN HYSYS. If you have access to aspen HYSYS I can prepare a list of instructions that will give you what you want if you follow it religiously
Cheers

Mukku:

I removed the reference to your email as a favor to you.  Listing your email address leaves you open to a lot of trouble from other people outside our Forums - junk mail, viruses, etc.

Also, I'm afraid you are not going to obtain the services of our members in generating specific and custom-calculated Mollier diagrams for different LPG mixtures.  Our Forums are not meant to give away free engineering services.  You are going to have to generated these on your own.
