Are there any guide lines for filling the random packings in the packed column?

We have a Randomly packed column(scrubber) ment for SO2 absorption,The scrubber is quite old and now we are planning to replace the packing,So looking for a specific guidance for filling(method) and testing.

I always followed the standard method taught me back in 1960 and never had any problems. We used a "sock" to load the random ceramic packing - as per the U.S. Stoneware method. Today, with plastic and stainless rings and saddles, it should be even easier to load an absorber or scrubber.
