Dear all,
I read on the book of CURTISS WRIGHT Flow Control Technology - Farris Engineering as follows p. b8 :

Quote :
Pressure vessels having operating pressures not exceeding 15 psig are not considered within the scope of the ASME Code, Section VIII. Accordingly, pressure relief valve requirements for such applications are governed by other Codes and Standards that should be consulted.
The sizing equations for compressible fluids provided herein are valid for sonic flow conditions and should not be used to size pressure relief valves for applications in which subsonic (below 15 psig) flow conditions may exist. Low pressure applications can be reviewed by the Factory and special valves provided to meet those requirements.

The question is :
- I have Pressure Vessel with Normal Working Pressure of 10 psi, Capacity of gas flowing through is 100 MSCF, Constant Back pressure of 2 psi. To what Pressure I have to set the PSV?
- Is it using Normal PSV or not? Best regards, SUGIARTO

sugiarto,

Normal Working Pressure of your vessel is 10 psi (g?). How about the design pressure value? Be informed the design pressure value of a vessel dictates if it is a pressure vessel or not.

Vessels with design pressure not exceeding 15 psig are excluded from scope of ASME section VIII.
