I am a final year chemical engineering student and working on Lube Refinery's Vacuum Distillation Column as a part of my Final Year Project. I want to simulate vacuum column in HYSYS. Is there any tutorial that could teach me how to simulate a Vacuum Column? Please mention any resource of it.
Density ASTM D1298-05 0.8824 g/ml
ASTM D1160-06
Firts boiling 289.6oC
5%V 409.9oC
10%V 421.9oC
20%V 442.1oC
30%V 453.6oC
40%V 465.7oC
50%V 481.8oC
60%V 498.7oC
70%V 512.9oC
80%V 524.8oC
90%V 544.7oC

Hi Alvinvt,

as far as i use, in the simulation, vacuum conditions of an equipment can be specify by operating conditions (say op pressure of minus 0.8 kpag).

for the components with your conditions above, you can add in the Simulation Basis Manager -> Oil Manager.

Hopes this help,

Royen.

I have simulated in Oil Manager. But I have had problem when I used Shortcuts to caculate reflux ratio. I don't know Condenser and reboiler pressure, Can you help me?

Hi,

for condenser operating pressure, use liquid bubble point or vapor dew point of desired product,
and for reboiler pressure, use liquid dew point.

Could you simulate it for me?
I wanna 4 product: Offgas, LVGO, HVGO, Residue

Alvin,
you can't do it alone....or you'll do it wrong.
Anyway, some important factors to take in account:
- EssoTab property package
- enough overflash
- cracked gas & uncondensable (N2) to be added to the feed
- better to provide a mass TBP (not volume), plus density distribution, plus MW distribution (I know it's a lot, but you need them if you've to make a real design)
Moreover, search inside the site. I remember, at least, a very interesting discussion on vacuum distillation from Art Montemayor.
Good luck

i believe you can do that.

I Did it well. I used Cut/Bend 4 Cut in Curve. Then I used 2 Vaccum Distillation for separating Base Oil.
But I couldn't simulate in 1 Vaccum distillation inorder to separate Base Oil from Waste Oil.
I need some help.
Thank a lot
