i just want to know, there is possible to avoid sludge deformation inside the tank by maintaining the certain temperature using heating element.(steady-state heat transfer)
thanks.

Basic Sediment and Water (BS&W) which includes sludge is the characteristic of the crude oil source. Some crudes have less BS&W whereas some have more. The method commonly employed to prevent settling and formation of thick BS&W layers in a storage tank is to provide some kind of agitation to prevent settling. This agitation could be in the form of side-entry mixers (propeller agitators) or using a jet mixer with a circulating pump to keep the BS&W in suspension in the crude oil thus preventing settling.
I would think it to be a bad idea to heat the contents of a crude oil storage tank having a high BS&W. I foresee two problems. One could be the hardening of the sludge due to elevated temperature and forming difficult to remove hardened sludge. Second could be formation of unpredictable temperature gradients due to deposition of sludge on the surface of the heating element. The uneven sludge deposition would lead to uneven heating resulting in the temperature gradients.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Ankur.

Ankur2061 has just placed a negative feedback (with the message "No") to the post as above by kkala. He is requested for explanations.Previous thread http://www.cheresources.com/invision/topic/12828-fuel-oil-stability/ concerns fuel oil, but it can be also indicative for crude, a mixture of fuel oil and lighter components. It is reported there that heating accelerates sludge formation.

Such requests have been asked in the past and recently, e.g. http://www.cheresour...ting-and-sizing '> http://www.cheresour...ting-and-sizing - post No 3. More transparency and less unilateralism would be beneficial for the forum.
Ankur2061 hints at kkala's previous request for justification of negative feed back, concerning http://www.cheresour...ding-pump-curve - post No 6. Public explanations could limit arbitrary feed backs, hiding encourages them. Just imagine a newspaper, having published an insulting letter, to recommend direct personal communication instead of publishing the response.
