Hello Ashrath,
I would think it is better that you have an overview of the Oil and Gas industry, not in depth but just the surface... There's exploration, drilling, subsea, topsides, onshore, tank farm and so on... Going for training is more less when you are saturated and / or want to further enhance your knowledge in a certain aspect.
I don't think it's a good idea for you to sit in a training room, not being able to absorb most of the valuable knowledge. But when you do know something, it'll be an enjoyable experience when you can hear from a different perspective that you've never considered before, or even debate confidently when someone tells you something illogical.
Everything can be good, not depending on the job itself, but on the doer... I think specialist studies is good, which involves basic engineering (not rocket science) and plenty of small scale business knocking on your door from time to time... They think overseeing the whole topsides is good, the ability to be exposed to all sorts of systems and so on...
Conclusion, I apologize that I couldn't be of any help... It's just that I've seen so many successful people who are from different fields and background, both in the general industry as well as in the oil and gas industry.
