Hello Everyone,

Can anyone explain me about the concepts of support Beams required for supporting the column internals in a packed and tray columns and how are the calculations done for detemining the dimensions and type of support beams. What are the various parameters which are needed for calculating the weight and dimensions of the support beams. Can anyone have any attachment for the same.

Any small information will be of big help.

Thanks and Regards,

SVP

Spai:

I have installed internal supports for absorbers, strippers, distillation columns, and adsorbers.  I could explain the concepts to you, but I have to know what it is that you have at hand.  Every tower or column has its special scope of operation and internal requirements vary.

Today, almost everyone I know of uses the supplier of the internals – be they trays or packing – to design, specify, and/or install the supports with full responsibility for performance.  If you are debating designing and installing your own internals in a developing country you may be forced to do it yourself because of economics, but I would caution you to have an experienced mechanical engineer do it for you with you only specifying your needs in detail.
