There all,

I need solution to the problem below:

I am in charge of handling the purge in natural gas pipeline in korea.

My question is how to calculate the amount of nitrogen in case of purging 30-inch, 16km-long natural gas pipeline and how to calculate the amount of natural gas to replace air to natural gas in pipeline before serving the natural gas.

finally, what is the essential procedure of purging and serving pipeline, for example purging pressure of nitrogen and natrual gas

thank you so much

Aren't you using a pig to do the purge?

I would use a pig to displace the ambient air in the pipeline.  I would use nitrogen on the upstream side of the pig and push out all the air.  I would then follow the procedure with natural gas, doing the same thing.

What procedure are you employing?

That sounds a fairly major project.  I'm amazed they've put someone in charge whose starting point for a solution is an online forum post.

I'd suppose one has to take special care to vent any dead legs or pockets along the way (not in direct path swept by pig) where air might otherwise linger?

Woo:

The attached document is something I downloaded from David Simpson at his website, MuleShoeEngineering.com.

I believe it is pretty extensive (although you should expand on your local needs and safety requirements) and should give you an idea of what you confront.
