Dear Members

I am lookingout for applicable set of Codes/Standards that should be referred to for a Propane Mounded Bullet Storage Installation in the US.

API 2510 for LPG installations doesn't apply to mounded bullet storage.

NFPA 58 also isn't very specific about layout guidelines/interdistances for bullets/interdistances for Mounds/Process Blocks etc.

Someone has referred me to the following British standard, but I am looking for an American Standard:

"Guide For The Design, Construction and Use of Mounded Horizontal Cylindrical Vessels for Pressurized Storage of LPG at Ambient Temperatures, EEMUA Publication No. 190:2000"

I have worked on LPG installations in India and so am familiar with OISD Guidelines 144, 150, 162 etc.

I am looking for something on similar guidelines.

I am also trying to get my hands on some NPGA Codes.

Please help.

Yajnavalkya,

The reference you have mentioned in your post is neither a standard nor a code. It is just a guidance practice from the UK based organization "'Engineering Employers Materials Users Association", (EEMUA) and uses formulae and basic design philosophy from the British Standards Institution standard "PD 5500"

The American perspective on storage tanks included mounded storage tanks is provided in a handbook titled:

"Handbook of Storage Tanks Systems" by W.B. Geyer and sponsored by the "Steel Tank Institute", Lake Zurich, Illinois

In this handbook, codes and regulations for storage tanks as applicable in the United States are also provided.

There maybe some other reference which I am not aware of, and others can contribute.

Regards,

Ankur.

Ankur Sir

Thankyou for the clarification and reference. I will try and look it up.

I am actually looking for guidelines/norms to be followed for the following aspects:

  1. Limit on Total installed capacity of Propane.
  2. Limit on per mounded bullet capacity of Propane
  3. Interdistances between two Propane bullets
  4. Interdistances between 2 separate mounds
  5. Location of Mounded Bullets and distances to be maintained from the mounds to plot boundary, other process units, pump house, TLF Gantry etc.
  6. Minimum Necessary, rather mandatory instrumentation for the Bullets etc

All these are very specifically provided in OISDs for installations in India. However, I am working on a Green Field Propane storage terminal in the US of A and one in South American continent and need Codes/Standards for the same.
