Dear Friends,

I am writing to gain knowledge about the maximum safe temperature for direct loading of chemical product in a truck. We have two product categories in our petrochemical complex; high vapor pressure and low vapor pressure product.

I have found in API 2003 that the maximum safe loading temperature for loading low vapor pressure product (flash point > 38°C) is within 8.5 to 11°C lower than their flash point temperatures.

Unfortunately, there is no data about high vapor pressure and medium vapor pressure product (flash point < 38°C). Currently, we have two new product; one with flash point around 20°C and the other one with flash point <15°C.

It would be grateful if you could introduce me any guide or standard for this issue.

Thank you for your time and attention.

Some products have a "Safe Handling Guide".  Try Google.

Dear Friends,

I should say that our new hydrocarbon product has a carbon distribution (C5-C10). As I said this is new so I need to determine the maximum safe loading temperature based on a certified document (Guide or Standard) for high vapor pressure products.

Thank you for your comments.

Meysam ,

Consider doing some google work as suggested by Latexman , I don't believe that you will find the so called "maximum safe loading temperature " .

You need to stick to the risks associated to low flash point materials

Hope this helps

Search and find a Safe Handling Guide for the same procuct, a different product with similar hazards, or several products with hazards that "bracket" the hazards of your new product.  Similar vapor pressure, flammability, electrical conductivity, etc.  Breizh is right, I doubt you will ever find exactly what you want.  You will have to use the existing experience/information you can find in your plant, on Google, or with your colleagues or mentor and reason your way to a safe operating window on temperature.  The key is to determine what is safe and reasonable for this product.  Once you have some information to use as talking points, discuss it in detail with key people in your company that have a stake in the future operation - Operations staff, Operators, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Management, everyone.
