can someone explain me which pump is used for handling slurries or rather which pump handles slurries better,,,diaphragm pumps or gear pumps.

Slurries can be abrasive.  It depends on what the solids are.  Abrasives eat gears.  A diaphragm pump would be best.

As far as i know, diaphragm pump handles the slurries better in which a reciprocating diaphragm driven mechanically or by pressurized air to expand and contract the pumping chamber...

Fallah is absolutely correct.

 

I've used air-actuated diaphragm pumps on continuous slurry service (feeding solids filters) for many years with boring success.

 

A gear pump is totally out of the question.  It wouldn't last very long before erroding away its internal gears down to knubs.

Ayche,

Progressive cavity pump are quite good for such application . Google PCM or progressive cavity pump .

My 2 cents.

thank you again… it increases my knowledge to a great level.. since i am a student and haven't had any long time industry exposure till yet. :)
