Hi

Bulk Density, just as know is not an inherent property since it can be varied largely in case of even small tapping to the equipment which is designed for bulk density calculation. So it is absolutely required to follow a reference international standard for the determination of catalyst bulk density. My samples are extrudate catalysts with 25 to 35 mm diameter and 20 mm height for every single specimen. I want to measure bulk density according to the international standard but no standard is reported for this size. Many standards is available for small size catalyst but for the one I need seems nothing can be found.

Some ASTM standards are designed for catalysts with smaller sizes, I mean :

D4781-99 Standard Test Method for Mechanically Tapped Packing Density of Fine Catalyst Particles
and Catalyst Carrier Particles

D4164-99 Standard Test Method for Mechanically Tapped Packing Density of Formed Catalyst and Catalyst Carriers

Can you propose a standard procedure for the determination of bulk density of my catalyst samples?

Note: Theses Catalysts applied in the Methane Reforming reactor tubes.

Thanks in advance

Reza,

Why can't you ask the supplier of these catalyst pellets to provide the bulk density? Is it that this is something you are required to do as part of your student assignment?

Regards,

Ankur.

Thank you Ankur

We don't know any info about the supplier and I don't think we can obtain that.

It is a part of our catalyst science class. We are asked to present a procedure for this matter. We are going to pick a method between tapped or loose bulk density. In addition we need to know for the sizes I'd already mentioned , what equipment is required?

I search the websites a lot but we get info for smaller sizes and nothing within ours.

Regards
