hi all,

i'm a process engineer, working in a food producing plant.

I have a big bag (tote) unloading station for raw material (powdery like substance). the beg bag unloads to a funnel connected to a rotary seal, from there the powder is pneumatically conveyed via blower to the storage bins.

i have 2 major problems:

1. there is a lot of dust when we unload a big bag (the whole room fills up with dust).

2. there is a suction system (obviously not adequate enough), it sucks more material than dust so i lose perfectly fine raw material (it goes to a filter, but is then classified as feed for animals and not food).

does anyone here know of a good, dust free (or minimal) system for unloading big bags/totes to a pneumatic conveying system?, or how to overcome the problems i have?

i have attached a rough sketch of the system

best regards,

Asaf.

If you add a pinch valve and specify sacks with outlet spots, you can devise a transfer that is nearly dust free, by connecting spouts to a cylindrical inlet pipe.  You may need 'bag massagers' or wings on the side to keep material flowing, depending upon consistency.  For ideas, try a google search on 'dust free bulk bag unloading'. Alternately, run the vacuum through a cyclone, and the cyclone can go into a small accumulator (pipe even) that you can then feed to rotary valve between successive sacks.  Dust from cyclone could go to a filter as you have now.  It sounds as though you need a finer filter so the dust doesn't go into the room as a short-term solution.  If you can't do anything else, simply using a conical hopper with tall sides ought to help.
