Hello,

I saw one check valve on the drawing with a note saying it is defeatable. What does it mean?

It is pretty strange to me that the check valve is positioned in the opposite direction of the normal flow.

Thank you!
Regards,
Leo

Leo,

I think such note wants to say "the check valve is subject to failure..."; then this matter should be considered in relevant risk assesment and HAZOP study...

Hello Fallah,

Thank you for your reply. It says " Check valve to be defeatable and locked open during normal operations."
Thank you.

Regards,
Leo

Hello,

a defeatable check valve is a standard swing check valve with an operating handwheel, allowing the lift of the disc and the valve to be used in both directions.

Leo, this is why you found the text "open during normal operation"...

Why for ?

> When your LNG terminal evolve in a export/import facility when it was before just an import, you will need to make major modifications to your installation to enable the emptying/filling of your tanks...

By replacing your standard swing check valve by a defeatable one (also called manoeuvrable), you solved all issues at minimum cost.

I attached some information on the model we manufacture FYI.

Any question, please do not hesitate to ask.
