we have planned to install a Waste Heat recovery system on crude fired heaters.Currently we have a following data available in which Stack temperature (around 900 F) ,flue gas composition. And we did'nt have a mass flow rate of a flue gases .

when we go for stack gas analysis by outsorces , vendor recommend to make a modification on heater stack by making a two  4" dia sample points at a height of 80 % OF STACK HEIGHT.

1) Is this modification reasonable or OK to find out the flowrate and complete analysis of flue gases.??

2 Have u know / aware Similar modification or provision of such sample point?

2) we have calculated the flow rate and combustion calculation by API-532 and API-560.Is this calculated results are used for waste heat boiler design? or go for experimental data rather than theoritcal calculations?

3) Any other method to calculate the flowrate of flue gases?

Thankyou.

You will easily calculate flue gas flow if you know your fuel gas flow, fuel gas composition, and excess air flow.
