Hello everyone,

I have a dilemma choosing a cartdrige filter of a y-strainer.

we have a filter resin trap which gets clogged very often.

the quastion is should i use a filter with bigger size mesh or change and use a strainer?

or any other solution would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi ,

Which equipment is dowstream the filter or stainer ? What will be the consequences to have the materials in the next equipment or next step of the process? Why don't you use 2 units in // , when one is clogged you start the 2nd unit based on DP measurement ?

Good luck

its a mixed bed polishing system the water going through the polisher go to a dearetor, boilers and turbine.

the filter is placed downstream as a resin trap to indicate we have too much resin escaping the system.

we use only one filter per polisher because of space limitation.

Thanks for the reply!

Valna,

In my plant, we are have the same "online polishing unit" to remove the ions from condensate water. Here we do not have any problem with resin carry over. We have a resin trap. So far I have never seen any resin in the trap. There may be a problem in your unit. There is an inbuilt strainer which is installed inside the unit will not allow the resin to come out. It causes major problems.

How you are admitting the condensate in your unit? its from top to bottom or bottom to top? If the flow is from bottom to top, it may fluidize the bed if the velocity crossed the minimum fluidization velocity. If this the case, you check is there any option to change the flow pattern or limit the flow.

If you cannot do anything, you can go for "basket" type strainer. This will take more load than "Y" strainer.

Hello,

our flow is top to bottem, and even after cleaning the filters thay get clogged with resing, I've been told it's normal amout of resin and that it does not indicat of a problem.

In my opinion there is a problem with the strainers inside, maybe broken or size.

my supervisors prefer not to stop for maintance.

so basket strainer seems to be a good solution.

Thanks!
