hi guys,

i got tis problem of cleaning our cooling water pump's strainer very frequently. Atleast twice weekly. normal operating temp : supply 27 degrees celsius and return 28 degrees celsius, at full operation it goes to a maximum of 35 degrees celsius for supply and return 36 degrees celsius. we got 4 cooling towers and operate 2 at a time. Supply pressure 4.5 barg and return controlled at 1 barg. NAOH, HCL, POLYSTABIL OF and POLYSTABIL OB are the following chemical injected to cooling water basin for water treatment. ph controlled at 7.8 - 8.5 and conductivity at < 3000ppm. pump suction line is abt 10" above the flat cooling water basin.
there's was one incident where the pump strainer's mash got torn. can u help me with ur kind suggestion on how to optimise my cooling water system plus to solve the frequent strainer cleaning problem. thanks and best regards

it seems that acid + base = salt + water. I s the salt causing the plugging?

Check the sludge causing strainer plugging...is it algae? if its algae, then change the chemicals... u heard of Kurita chemicals.. so far for 7 years we have never switch strainer.

Try to operate all of the cooling tower, don't spare two cooling tower since it will be a nice place for the microorganism dwelling .and the most important thing is that you should change your chemical adding in order to kill those microorganism.
