I would like to measure the gas flow in a burn pit for liquefied gas, what is the type of flowmeter used for measuring the flare gas, I have two 16 inches pipe line coming from the plant to burn pit, I want to measure the flow of gas in each header, also some instrumentation is involved for measuring the temperature of the burn pit, what type of Thermocouple to be suitable for temperature monitoring & the temperature is usually from 1200 deg c to 1600 deg c. Four fuel gas purge lines are utilized for mixing chamber to burn the gas, Is there any probability of Gas detection system, usually LEL & H2S  gas can be detected during burning the liquefied gas, what shall be the location to install the gas detection, The flame ignition sensor signals are fed to the HET panel, please provide me the complete instrumentation design procedure & how to understand the complete instrumentation package for modifying the burn pit.

Bahubali,

Flare Gas Measurement: !st Choice: Ultrasonic 2nd Choice: Thermal Mass flow meter. Refer:

http://www.cheresour...are-gas-header/

Thermocouple: Type-K (https://www.google.c...hA6XR8AfElarADg)

Gas Detection: Fixed gas detectors shall be located outside the thermal radiation zone as per applicable laws. Administrative procedures shall apply such as carrying of hand-held H2S detectors along with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) by operators and maintenance personnel when approaching the burn-pit

Also refer the attachment for burn-pit design principles.

Ankur
