We have a mutistage pump with suction pressure 18 Kg/Cm2 & discharge pressure of 60 Kg/Cm2 & stuffing box pressure of 24Kg. We frequently have M/seal failures. Do these failures relate directly to stuffing box pressure? Is there any solution for this problem?

This is far too little information to determine what your problem is. Different designs of seal have different pressure ranges and certainly pressure is a factor to be taken into account when selecting a mechanical seal. but there are many other factors to be taken into account; shaft speed, product pumped etc.

Suggest that you consult your seal manufacturer giving him full duty conditions and product information

dilip,

Mechanical seal design is have take account of the duty of pressure that usuallu the pump manufacturer do to select mechanical seal. I believe the high stuffing box pressure is not a root cause.
The possibility of mech seal failures are some because of misinstallation, mis-operation, misalignment of pump shaft and may be dirty of liquid buffer to the seal.

Have you check the above possibility??
