Hi all,

Great forum.

I have a 4,000 litre fuel tank in a remote humid/tropical location. When fuel is pumped out, humid air enters the tank and condenses when the temperature drops overnight, contaminating the fuel.

The tank has a working pressure of 0.2 - 4 bar and has a pressure relief valve set at 4 bar. I have investigated tank blanketing valves and they are reasonably expensive and I'm thinking they are overkill for my situation as the blanket isn't safety critical and we aren't that concerned about having a super accurate pressure level inside the tank.

Is there any reason why I can't achieve a blanket using a standard single stage or dual stage scientific regulator? The nitrogen source is from a cylinder (160-200bar)

For example

or

Any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

Consider the link attached, you will find your answer  (safety (tank failure) and waste of money (over consumption of N2)

Hi Breizh,

Thanks for your reply I will look into the link.

Do you have any idea how much blanketing valves cost in your part of the world? They are $4,500 each here in Australia which seems a bit high, what do you think?

Do you have gas available to blanket the tank???,  Nitrogen is expensive for blanketing.

About the PCV self regulated valve for N2/GAS flow, there are many options in the control valve market, Contact a supplier, and ask for the pressure regulator valves for blanketing, It is not as expensive as you mention.

Hi Horacio,

Thanks for your reply, I have spoken to some local suppliers and it seems that my application can be achieved with a domestic/commercial two stage LPG regulator which only costs about $500.
