Plug flow - small to medium volumes, high conversions, high efficiency.
CSTR - large volumes, low to medium conversions, multiple CSTRs may be needed for high conversions and efficiency.

Cost of scaling. Most CSTR are not scalable. This is the reason why most CSTR-based chemical plants have low capacity.
