How To Estimate The Circulation Rate For Amdea (Mdea 45Wt + Pz 5Wt) Be

I checkde with GPSA and Bryan Research and Engineering to model an amine sweetening process using Amdea (MDEA 45wt + PZ 5wt).

Instead of a trial-and-error approach, I am looking for an equation or method to preliminarily estimate the circulation rate before the detailed design phase.

 

I have seen preliminary circulation rate guidelines for MEA, MDEA, and DEA etc, in various references.

However, I am unsure how to approach this for Amdea.

Does anyone know how to estimate the preliminary circulation rate for this specific blend or have any references or methodologies for this?

Is the only way to estimate the flow rate just to input it into HYSYS and check the results?


If you could recommend any literature or articles, I would deeply appreciate it and read them thoroughly! I've been searching for this issue for a month now!

Circulation rate is calculated from the rich and lean compositions and the gas treatment requirements. This is just a material balance problem. Are you struggling with knowing the rich and lean compositions? Or the volume flow of gas? Or the composition of the inlet and outlet gas? The amine flow rate is the only unknown variable after these inputs are known.

What I am struggling with is determining the appropriate values for ⓘ Solute Free Mole Fraction of Liquid in Outlet [XN] and Solute Free Mole Fraction of Liquid in Inlet [X0]. Is there a standard or guideline for these values? please  recomend any documents and books.. thanks

Hi,

If I was in your shoes, I would try to find supplier of this chemicals on Internet. Then I will email or ring them to get data /brochures about the system AMDEA / gas to be treated. It's in their interest to share data to promote their solvent.

This is the answer.

 

You set the target lean and rich loading (mol H2S/mol aMDEA), set the target H2S content in sweet gas and everything will follow.

 

Practically speaking, rich amine loading will dictate your circulation rate as high values will require CRA materials in your rich amine section, due to increase in corrosivity. 

 

But for your use case as a student, you can certainly follow what BR&E recommends for rich/lean amine loading. They make ProMax after all, the gold standard wrt to gas sweetening process, IMO.

 

I have seen lean and rich amine loading (for MDEA) at high as 0.1 and 0.81 mol H2S/mol MDEA, respectively.
