Hi all,

I need information on process engineering design for gas blanketing system and Vapor Recovery Units.

Thanks in advance.

I understand that the VRU is designed to recover HC gases from the processing platform.

The information i need are:

1)How to design the HC gas for gas blanketing in crude storage tank and requirements to consider for its design.

2) Steps to consider during the Design and sizing for a VRU, and its link to a crude storage tank.

I know some of us have experience with VRU systems, experience informations is appreciated.

Thanks.

Asade:

The recovery of Volatile Hydrocarbons from Crude Oil storage tanks is well documented and discussed in literature and particularly on the Internet.

If you have a Vapor Recovery Project assigned to you it is more than probable that you will not design it --- unless you have had extensive experience in doing this type of design. The application is very specialized and requires a lot of hands-on knowledge about operations and GORs (Gas-to-Liquid Ratios) involved. I recommend you contact an experienced supplier of this specialized hardware, such as the Hy-Bon company in Midland, TX : http://www.hy-bon.com/

These experts will guide you in detailing out all the critical basic data required to size and design an appropriate unit for your application. Additionally, read the attached file on the application you cite. This is just one of many such informations found on the internet.

I hope this helps.

I agree with Art's post above. This is something best left to a specialist in the industry. I have found a variety of information about vapor recovery online. Some places specialize in strictly gas station type applications, and others are laser focused on the oil & gas industry. I would recommend COMM Engineering for oil & gas production applications. They have a lot of experience with environmental engineering, consulting and GHG emissions specialties. They also have a proprietary technology they use in their vapor recovery units. On their website they also have a handy tool that calculates the value of flared/vented gas.
