We have a small problem in getting the composition profile in the Distillation column module in PRO-II. The feed to column has several components and I wish to look at the tray to tray composition of a paricular component. This is important for deciding the side draw location. If we ask PRO-II (the keyword file interface), to generate the composition profile, ig does so for all the components (we do so by specifting PRINT composition = M in the column). To get the specific component from this dump is not an easy task (the column is a superfractionator and therefore has more than 100 theoretical trays). I have done this thing easily in HYSYS and ASPEN.
Does anybody has a solution/workaround?

If you mean here how to make a composition, temperature etc profiles in pro ii, I think I can help you , but I do not know whether this will solve your problem or not
We can generate the composition , temperature etc in pro ii by using Generate plot, you can find it at Output Menu then Generate Plot, after that you will see a form, if you had done a simulation ( distillation column simulation, of course ) you will see your column name ( ex. T1(column )), when you click at T1 Column you will find a list of available plot ( for ex. Overview of temperature & Flowrate ), then you can plot it

You can generate output file and can get the column component tray data under specified column section.
If you want to create a separate file particular to column individual tray data, you can use a statement DBASE DATA=PROFILE at the beginning of the keyword file and once you run the file, one default file generates with extension name as *.p2i. You can get the column tray by tray data in that file. You can open this file with a text pad.
You can generate output file and can get the column component tray data under specified column section.

These methods give the composition of ALL the components in the column. I have more than 100 components in my component list. And I wish to look at how ONE of these is getting distributed. This is essential in decidine a side draw location. To take the .p2i file or the column output from the output file and then copy the composition of one component seems to be the only option I am eft with at the moment.

hi,
i've only done this for small columns not a 100 tray column. also, i was mainly intersted in distillation curve data rather than componenets.
its simple, you add a drawoff stream to the tray you want to get the composition for. you set the flowrate of this steram to very small flow, e.g 0.0001 lb/hr. you can get the distillation/compostion from the stream in the format you like
for 100 trays i will do it every 10 trays or so first to get the feel than find the separtaion zone.
its much simpler in hysys ! no hassles

page number 71-32, under 'column input' heading in proii keyword manual might be helpful for u. here the if starting and ending component are given same then one component profile vs trays can be plotted.

It should be easy to get a plot of component profile for column in Proii.
The following is done in graphic interface:
- From menu "Output" click on Generate plot.
- A window pops up with equipment identification. Select the desired column.
- On the right side select "Vapor and Liquid compositions"
- Click button "Option", a new window pops up.
- Select phase and component (or conponent group) to plot.
You will get a plot of composition in the selected phase venus tray numbers.
