Hello,
Did anyone has an experience about debottlenecking of the glycol dehydration
system in case of increasing gas flow rate ?If anyone has the experience please
share your ideas or design criteria.
Thank you very much.

In which are you need debottleneck?
Reboiler, Contacor, Still Column?
Can you specify?
Regards.

Pronab,
I believe that if the inlet gas flowrate is increased all of the equipments, Contactor/Cooler/Regenerator system, need to verify.
ps: The contactor was designed with a structured packing.

dear akkaset,
In order to do a debotleneck you should first have all the valid data for your dehydration unit,
the adequacy can be done by go thru all the vendor data (if available) or you can also do it by using simulation software (prefered software proMax or ProII)
Hope it can help a little

Dear Erwin,
If I have only HYSYS simulation , it can also use for adeqaucy checking?
Actaully, I'm not sure that we can use a simulation program for check a performance
of existing system. Based on the simulation program it will give only properties of
fluids at 100% performance of reaction. If I missing something please advise.
Thanks

Glycol package in HYSYS is quite infamous due to its inaccuracy, especially if C5+ components are present in gas stream. Some improvements have been done during the past several months (according to Aspen representatives), but it is still questionable.
The best way to check capacity limits of an existing unit, is to execute comprehensive test-run and verify operating envelope of complete TEG package. Potential bottlenecks are contactor tower, regenerator reboiler and reflux condenser and it might happen that only one of these items is your constraint in achieving higher throughputs.
Usually, most of process equipment is designed to handle 110-120% of design capacity without violating product quality parameters, but this has to be confirmed by plant performance test. It's not a hard thing to be done - just good scheduling, instrument calibration and on-line maintenance shift dedicated to your plant.

Dear akkaset,
You can also use HYSYS for checking the adequacy of your glycol dehydration unit, but you should keep some margin between the actual design with the data input to HYSYS.
I've done the adequacy check of glycol dehydration system by using HYSYS for (YETAGUN project; Petronas), and the results is quite satisfying.
The results of HYSYS and the existing system are only about 10% discrepancy, but you should noted and taking care all the HYSYS recommendation for glycol system simulation.
