Hi

Does anybody know, abt any standards for Dyke Walls or its health check? Actually I have been working with a petrochemical plant constructed in 1979 n till date these dykes are never inspected and I suspect this is a matter of concern.
If no standards then, does any body have experience in managing Dykes condition?

Are you talking about the bund walls around storage tank(s)?

In that case, please check out EEMUA 159. In the Netherlands we use PGS 29.

Anyway, I think it is a good idea to do visual inspections of the bund wall and bund area on a regular basis (at least once a year).

Dear

Not Only the Impervious nature/strength wise Health of Bund wall(Dyke for Impounding) alone;

but do include any things(pipelines/cables etc.) passing through these via sleeves/conduits.
For the proper ends sealing

Hope this helps.

The recent incident at buncefield did show the importance of bund walls. Refer to the nice pictures in the investigation report, and show them to your boss / employees if they still drag their feet in maintaining those.

Good luck, be safe

Ya I was talking about 'Bund Walls'. You are correct in the sense that Visual inspection is good thing but one should also look at concrete strength.
Well I try to search for the standard suggested by you.
Thanks for your valuable suggestions.

Qalander (Chem)
Yes you are absolutely correct but thank god we dont have such thing passing through it. biggrin.gif

No I am not looking for any checklist but some thing to be checked or to be kept in mind to keep the Bund Walls healthy.

Ollie
Thanks for the report. It'll help a lot !!

Hi Rocky,

As Qalander suggested www.hse.gov.uk gives guidelines for the bund walls. It would give you rough idea as these guidelines are also subjected to change as per situation.

In my recent project we have used bund height as 1.5m and bund are sized to hold 110% max capacity of the largest tank.

http://www.hse.gov.u...meascontain.htm

Hope, it would be useful.

Regards
Komal
