Ajay,

I suggest You get hold of a copy of API STD 2510 (Design And Construction of LPG installations) and go through section 7.1 which talks of mandatory requirements for LPG tank accessories. The standard is a valuable guide on LPG installations.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

Ankur,

Thanks a lot your email. Appreciate if you can provide me the copy of the same to ajay.sharma@petrofac.com.

Do you know the reason why we are providing excess valve in outlet line? Appreciate if you share some more views on this issue.

Cheers!!!

Ajay,

I am presuming your outlet line from LPG sphere is connected to suction of pump which is intermittent in operation. The excess valve would in most likelihood be for relief due to thermal expansion due to solar radiation between a blocked-in section of the outlet line. I wouldn't know of any other reason.

As far as sending you a copy of API STD 2510, it is copyrighted material and as such not to be transmitted to any other party. From your mail ID you are with 'Petrofac' which is a fairly large company in the oil and gas/petrochemical field and I would be surprised if it is not available in your company's library. For a company like yours it is possible you have a on-line subscription through either 'Techstreet' or 'IHS'. If not, recommend your management to go for an on-line subscription. This is the way most good companies do it nowadays.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

Excess flow valves are common features in liquified gases services. They are typically installed in piping carrying flow out of a vessel. (Check valves are used on inlet lines.) Configured this way, they would limit the size and/or rate of a potentially dangerous gaseous release if there was a line rupture.   There use is required for some fluids in some areas.
