evaporation losses in an open tank?

Is there a fairly simple formula that I can use?

Parameters

DI water at 207 F.

Ambient air temperature is currently approx 50 F

45% RH

30 square feet of surface area.

The 900 gallon tank is lightly agitated by recirculating 180 gph (pulled from one end of the tank and put back at the other end and the input/outputs are well below the surface).

Thanks,

Mike W.

Mike:

What do you mean by an "open" tank? Do you mean a tank with a roof that is vented to the atmosphere? Or do you mean a tank that has no roof?

If you mean a tank without a roof, the the evaporation rate is is strongly dependent upon the water temperature and the velocity of air movement across the surface of the water. If you will visit www.air-dispersion.com/usource.html and select "Evaporation From a Non-boiling Pool", you will three different methods for calculating the evaporation rate. I suggest that you use all three methods and compare the results.

Have a look at "heat losses in open tank" , this cheresources.com internet site.
