Hi,

I have been working on a group project where we used a Fischer-Tropsch reactor to convert coal to gasoline. In this process, I am now to design the part of the process which deals with the removal of CO2 and H2S from the syngas. We have calculated the flowrates and pressures but to be honest I haven't done anything like this before, where we need to get dimensions etc and therefore was wondering if anyone could help me. What information do I need to calculate the size of the absorber/scrubber? I've been thrown in the deep end and would like a life line!

Thanks!

Dear,
I hope you would be using selxol process for the removal CO2 and H2S which I have seen in most of the coal gasification processes, whereas I just recently finished the pre-feasiblity study for Direct Coal Liquifaction whereas you are using indirect coal liquifcation i.e. gasification and F-T synthesis. If you are asking for calculations for the sweetening system equipments' design, the first thing you should have is the simulation/calculations available for the sweetening (any configuartion you are using selexol I found common in this case) i.e. final converged simulation results meeting the product specification e.g. Vapor Liquid traffic in case of the columns and the other necessary data for the rest of the equipments. I hope this helps.

Thanks Padmakar.

I have looked into the selexol process and this is the process which i am considering. I am using Methyldiethanolamine as my solvent which shall remove 99% of the H2S and CO2 in the process stream. However, I am unsure as to how to calculate how many stages there will be inside the absorber and also, how much MDEA will be required in order to scrub the synthetic gas. Have you any idea how I can do this?
